 STEWART’S NEWS

The season is really slowing down.  With Easter being so early this year, many of our snow birds have already gone north.

We still have a few events planned for May, one being our first NCC Wine Club meeting on May 20.  Eight wines will be tasted suitable for summer drinking.  Small plates will be created to compliment the each wine for a price of $40 per head.  We have 9 signed up so far with goal of getting 30.  The event will be held in the ballroom, with Mark Spivak being the host.  Mark has a regular wine talk show on NPR for the Palm Beaches, and is probably the most qualified wine expert in the county.  This is a test event, and we will then start up
in the fall with monthly meetings.

The second cooking class was again a great success.  We made Beef Wellington which we served with garlic mashed potatoes, and green beans.  Josie and I personally took the class, and I was extremely impressed with Jo Jo’s knowledge and professionalism.  There were good questions, and good answers.  The wine flowed during the prep, and during dinner…as Julia Child says, you can’t cook without a little wine!

We are into our second day of the Bob Kroeger video croquet lessons.  I have interviewed each student, and it has received top marks. This program was meant to be a value to members; we are not making a profit on the event, just giving the members a chance to experience a different level of croquet instruction.  As Joe Pierotti said, “They will know how good the program was when they see my game improve.”

We will be closing the Grill after Mother’s Day.  We will be closing in July for at least two weeks, BUT I am getting a quote to laser level the courts and it may be necessary to close for a longer period.  We will only be closed for more than two weeks if maintenance is necessary.

The Croquet Grill will open October 7, and we will have a New Member cocktail party which has been moved to the 16th due to Yom Kippur. Our cooking classes will resume, as well as the Wine Club meetings, and I hope to offer dance classes as well.

I hope you all have a wonderful summer!

ARCHIE’S NEWS

Many Thanks to those members who helped out during the two gigantic golf croquet events when we set 48- 1/4 courts. We estimated 384 people played simultaneously!!! I doubt very much if anyone else has ever handled the volume of players any where in
the world. And I also would like to commend you all on your patience and expertise. THANK YOU!! Each of the corporation’s CEO’s gave us Super A-Plus-Plus marks which is a direct reflection on how will you guys handled you groups. We have one more “large” event booked for Friday May 16 at 6:15pm (180 players). If any of you can help
out again it would be very much appreciated. Please call me on my cell phone at (561)818-6039. If I don’t hear from you, definitely you will hear from me. Thank you again.

Starting Thursday, May 15th, we are going to try and beef up the Thursday Twilight participation by offering Hi-Lo Mixers at 4:00 to 5:45pm. Come and play a couple of 50 minute games. I will pair the team and then you all can head for the bar!! Let’s try and make Thursday afternoon “Fun Croquet” so come on out and play!!

Finally, I want to personally thank Stewart Jackson for all of his extremely hard work and guidance since he started as our General Manager last September. Stewart has instituted many new
programs both on and off the lawns. He has increased the membership greatly average roughly to about one new member a week! And not to mention has been a tremendous help to all of us who work here. For me personally, Stewart’s assistance with our croquet events has made my life a lot easier and his thoughts and ideas for the property have helped me considerably. Stewart is an extraordinary player and person and we all owe him our deepest gratitude. With Stewart at the helm there is no question in my mind that he is steering us in the right direction. Stewart and his lovely wife Josie are leaving soon for the north for 4 to 5 months (depending on which one you ask) and I look forward to their return so Stewart can once again perform his magic. Thanks “Stewie”!

REMINDER- Please take note that Mondays are a fertilizing day for our lawns. David and Carl are busy preparing and watering. Courts are open for play at 10:30.

HEADS UP:
FOR Archie’s sake (and for that of other fellow members in your clinic), please let us know if you cannot make the clinic that you have signed up for at least a day prior to the clinic.

SOCIAL EVENTS

The social season at the NCC has been a great success!  We are so thankful for the positive response that we have received.  As you know we sent out an email last week asking for feedback.  Well, the response was overwhelming!  Everyone is so excited to continue our social events.  We will be hosting many new and exciting events in the fall.  As the summer is slow we will only be offering the Thursday Night Pub.  The food service will be discontinued after the 20th of May.  Please sign up for the below social events!  We hope that you will be joining us for the Country Western Dinner and Dance.  The Ambassadors are hosting this wonderful event.  Hope to see you there.

A message from SandyJames Fine Food:

As our first season as your caterer comes to a close, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support.  We have enjoyed serving you lunch, member night menus and special
occasion dinners.  We look forward to hosting your events in the future.

As the summer months are slow here at the NCC, we will be closing the Croquet Grille as of May 11th.  Mother’s Day Brunch will be the last meal service until October when we will reopen in anticipation of your return.  For our local members we would like to continue to service your lunch needs.  We have come up with a lunch plan that we will start on Saturday May 17th.  We will be offering box lunches.  These lunches will be freshly prepared and available to you from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm on Saturdays.  We will be offering a combination of SandyJames favorite sandwiches, a bag of chips, a beverage, and a desert.  These will run $10.00 inclusive, and can be purchased from the Front Desk.  If the reception is positive we will then begin offering box lunches on additional week days.

Again, Thank you for your support of SandyJames and we look forward to serving you!
